Open letter to Verizon Wireless
Regarding the lack of support for Chinese input and Chinese character display:
Since I have limited space I will be brief. I have just returned from a trip to China/Southeast Asia which has me doubting whether your company truly understands the business needs of Americans in a globally competitive environment. Please forward this email to a decision maker.
I own a "World Edition" Blackberry 8830 (purchased in NY, NY, USA). I cannot seem to get a reasonable answer to a simple request. I need to have Chinese input (one of the largest languages on the planet) for my world phone. Even more ridiculous is the lack of support for displaying Chinese characters on the US based devices.
To be competitive, Chinese language is a requirement. Business partners read and speak Chinese. Why is it taking so long for Verizon Wireless to get on board with the rest of the business world?
Please do not send me any standard responses about such support not being available as I already know that RIM will package whatever language features you (VZW) request. I would appreciate this request being forwarded as a notice to someone in charge that this shortsightedness is a BIG PROBLEM.
Please have someone fix this problem so that Americans can communicate with Chinese business partners in Chinese. This is a very important, face saving aspect and a sign of respect to the Chinese culture. Millions of Chinese Americans are also AVOIDING YOUR PRODUCT.
While I understand that no product is perfect, I find it hard to believe that your company is willing to ignore the 836 MILLION MANDARIN SPEAKING PEOPLE. Worst still is that using your product I cannot communicate in a way that engenders respect with my customers! Please fix this problem by immediately offering Chinese input and language support.
Someone at VZW should be fired for this foul up! Put your researchers to work on the fastest growing studied foreign language in America. Would you like to guess what it is?
Get the picture?

I totally support you on the issue of chinese language pack for Blackberry 8830.
I spent three nights calling verizon helpline and blackberry technical support line for the chinese input software, still without any success.
Blackberry is unbelievably short-sighted not to add "chinese" to their multi-language features.
I am going back to the Verizon dealer tomorrow and will exchange it for something else. I just couldn't afford to spend anymore time searching for the right software to have the chinese language installed on the stupid Blackberry 8830.
I am so disappointed with Blackberry for not having the Chinese language feature on their supposedly smart phone for global travelling.
I am just so frustrated !!!
Hi Tommie,
Have you found out about the Chinese input/output methods or software options for the 8830 yet? Just came across your article while searching for the same options that you experienced earlier this year. I'm not a blogger or anything but just would like to know if you or any of your readers found any solutions to the same problem. Thanks for the time.
