Located on 2395 Route 30 East, in Lancaster, Pa (next to the Target store) we found the Amish house. Inside Renate gave us a tour of the Amish house including the main room, the girls room and the boys room. The tour included a description of the Amish lifestyle, religion, education,and home-life.

Amish:
Are educated up to 8th grade
Use no electricity (no wires)
Shave mustaches because they remind them of military
Shave their beards until they are married
Are allowed to serve in the military in non-combatabt roles
Consider buttons as jewelry
Do not drive cars although a non-Amish may drive them as passengers
Do not fly planes at all
Live together in tight knit communities
Practice a strict form of the protestant religion
Smoke their own meat on the farm
Are buried in their wedding clothes
Are allowed to go to a trades school, apprentice with a master and then open their own business
Hold church in their own homes (they rotate site locations every week)
Follow the dictates of their local Bishop
